Subject: The 1956 Class Reunion

The 1956 THS Class fiftieth celebration this last weekend was so much fun!   Carol, the best Church Lady; Joe, an awesome Judge; Jim, the pro Clown; and the talented musical group--Ruth Massey Stiles, LaVada Waters, Dale Joy, Dorothy Prudhomme, Marsha Hartos, Roy McCasland, Mary Hefner, Fran Hinkle, Arthur Smith,  Carol Redditt, and Loraine Purrington--  were the highlights of Friday and Saturday evenings.  Kinan Burk, Jim Wallace, Don Vars, Donald Jennings, Jim Hoodenpyle presided in style, and Glenna Reynolds presented the memorial tribute to classmates and faculty.   We loved the Hornet table decorations created by Barbara Finch.    We THANK YOU!!!.
It was special to have five first time attendees:  Sue Purrington, Virginia Dalluge Dell,
Doug Roper, Hershell Owens, and JoEna McDuff Marino.   Callie Gunter Combest, Jr. High Social Studies teacher, was our special guest.

Linda Joy kept an accurate record of our money and we had just the right amount to pay the Country Barn.  Over $500 was donated Saturday night and that will be more than enough money to pay for the expenses and some will be left for the next reunion--

Pam Owens-Lance took the group picture and she did a super job!   There were 44 in the picture.   Not pictured, Virginia Dell, Doug O'Daniel, and Charlotte LeMaster which totals 47 classmates who attended the weekend festivities.    If you want a group picture, please contact me.  We will be printing additional copies.

The Vision Room at the Fifth Seaon was the center of activity.  The fifty year old albums, newspapers and other articles were amazing!    Snacks and drinks were provided and enjoyed by many.   June Thompson, Maymie Chenoweth, and LaVada Waters were in charge of these arrangements.

The biggest success of the weekend were the  classmates, spouses,  and friends who attended.    Friday night there were over  82 who attended  and Saturday night there were 100 in attendance!  WOW!!

If you were in Amarillo this last weekend, you have wonderful memories.  If you didn't get to attend, plan now to join us in  2011.

Dear All,
It was a GREAT weekend.  Thanks to all.
Just remember, if you are in my neighborhood, I have plenty of room for guest and you are all welcome.  The only thing is to check in in advance so you know that I will be at home.  Maymie

Subject: The Reunion

Thanks to all of you who made the Reunion so special. Wesley, Joe, and Carol - you all really pulled it all together, got people talking and loosened everyone up - you did a great job! Working with the choir was fun, too, and I was glad to be a part of that - I especially appreciate those who were so clever with the ideas and words - and Fran, for your musical talent! Kinan, you were great to remember the things that needed to be taken care of and keeping things rolling. Valeria and Linda, you all carried the brunt of the planning and it was so well done! Glenna, you did a great job on the remembrances and, Jim, on the web pages and the MC job! Barbara, the tables looked lovely and the hospitality room was welcoming. My Thanks to you all! It was a great reunion!!!!
Fondly,
Carol

CLASS REUNION
Every ten years, as summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in the mail,
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand;
Make plans to attend without fail.

I'll never forget the first time we met;
We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,
And wore our most elegant dress.

It was quite an affair; the whole class was there.
It was held at a fancy hotel.
We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined,
And everyone thought it was swell.

The men all conversed about who had been first
To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses
And how beautiful their children became.

The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,
Now weighed in at one-ninety-six.
The jocks who were there had all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.

No one had heard about the class nerd
Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain;
She married a shipping tycoon.

The boy we'd decreed "most apt to succeed"
Was serving ten years in the pen,
While the one voted "least" now was a priest;
Just shows you can be wrong now and then.

They awarded a prize to one of the guys
Who seemed to have aged the least.
Another was given to the grad who had driven
The farthest to attend the feast.

They took a class picture, a curious mixture
Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini;
You never saw so many thighs.

At our 20th get-together, no one cared whether
They impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd all gone to pot.

It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores;
We ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
Then most of us lay around in the shade,
In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.

By the fortieth year, it was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill.

And now I can't wait; they've set the date;
Our fiftieth is coming, I'm told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for the old.

Repairs have been made on my hearing aid;
My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.

I'm feeling quite hearty, and I'm ready to party
I'm gonna dance 'til dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun; But I just hope that there's one
Other person who can make it that night.
